iPad has no response when pressing the power button and it can be turned on after inserting USB cable. Enter system and battery percentage is 100%. It shows “is searching” when being inserted SIM card and it turns off when plugging USB cable. Now press the power button and it has no response. According to the trouble phenomenon, there are two problems. One is the USB chip that must have something wrong. The USB chips of iPhone and iPad have greater chance to be broken. The other is that iPad does not recognize. So we doubt about the 3G part. Then teardown iPad and measure it, as shown in picture 2-34.

Remove the motherboard and measure the diode data of each testing point of USB chip with multimeter, finding no problem. Next measure the capacitors of each supply power circuit on motherboard to check whether there is any short circuit. When testing the RF part, we find that RF amplifier IC of 3G function circuit has burn mark, as shown in picture 2-35.

Using HOT AIR GUN to remove power amplifier chip , as shown in picture 2-36, and clean the solder pad. Test the power on and off function and they are normal. Battery displays 56%. Charging it and testing it for several days, we find it is still normal. But as the amplifier chip is damaged, iPad displays no service when inserted SIM card. After communicate with the customer, he says the 3G function is not used often, so he does not need the function.
